Gillingham may have unearthed a gem in the form of non-league striker Liam Nash.
The 21-year-old striker hit 37 goals last season for Maldon & Tiptree in the Isthmian League Division One North and was on trial at the Gills looking to earn himself a pro contract in the Football League.
His performances for the side, including a brace against Chatham Town, have shown a player with excellent movement, an eye for goal and a refreshing lack of fear on the pitch.
And those qualities, along with his impressive scoring record, prompted Gills boss Adrian Pennock to move swiftly to secure the young hitman’s signature on a two-year contract.
Speaking after signing, an elated Nash said: “The way the fans have supported me over these past couple of games is very welcoming.
“I’ll give 100 per cent back to them. I’m going to put the effort in to get my starts and do my hardest to get the ball in the back of the net.”
Gills boss Pennock was equally happy.
“We are delighted to sign Liam,” he said.
“He has been fantastic in training and his performances in the games we have played have been impressive.
“The fans took to him instantly and we now look forward to working with him.”
