A new-look Gillingham FC squad will travel to Doncaster for the opening game of the season with eight new faces, but more new signings may still be on the way.
Gillingham’s League One campaign kicks off at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday after an encouraging pre-season that saw the club rack up seven wins and one draw from their eight-game schedule.
And after a disappointing season that saw the club survive by just one point and one goal, the mood at the club appears to be on the up after the squad underwent a major summer overhaul by head coach Adrian Pennock and director of football Peter Taylor.
The BBC South East cameras were in attendance at Priestfield Stadium earlier this week as the players and staff gathered on the pitch for the annual pre-season photocall.

The club has drafted in eight new faces so far, with Alex Lacey, Gabriel Zakuani, Luke O’Neill, Tom Eaves, Conor Wilkinson, Connor Ogilvie, Billy Bingham and Liam Nash joining the Gills’ ranks over the summer.
But, according to Gills chairman Paul Scally, the club’s summer acquisitions may not yet be complete.
“There’s still things that could be happening and it’s possible we’ll have one or to more in by the weekend.”
After a successful pre-season and a well-received fan Q&A event at Priestfield this week, there’s sense of positivity among the fanbase as the season approaches.
Can the Gills build on that with a good start? We’re just days away from finding out.
