Gillingham manager Steve Lovell has signed a new two-year contract with the club and is already planning on how to bolster the side for next season.

Lovell took over the reins in October with the club in the middle of a depressing slump, replacing the sacked Adrian Pennock and the resigned Peter Taylor, who both left the club earlier in the season.

And the former striker, who was a terrace favourite at Priestfield during his playing days with the club, had an immediate impact, as he transformed the performances of the team on the pitch and reignited the spirits of the fans in the stands.

Lovell’s impressive time in charge has been deservedly rewarded with a new deal, as the Welshman put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Priestfield until the end of the 2019-2020 season.

Lovell was delighted to secure his immediate future with the club, telling the press: “It’s all sorted. I’m glad the Chairman has given me the opportunity and I’m very happy.

“When we’re safe then I can start looking at players that we’ve got listed and see what we can do to bring them in for next year.”
