Luton Town’s Olly Lee won the Mitre Goal of the Season award at the 2018 EFL Awards, thanks to his stunning 70-yard effort against Cambridge United.

The award was voted for by the players, managers and coaches in attendance at the 2018 EFL Awards gala in London, with Lee’s long-range effort getting the seal of approval from the majority in the room.

As you can see from the montage of nominees above, the competition for the award was fierce, but the Hatters midfielder was picked as the winner, as he declared himself “delighted” to have won the award.

“It is not often you get the chance to win a goal of the season award,” he said.

“Not many people do it, so it’s fantastic for me.

“It is an instinctive goal, one you may not score most of the time, but I caught it well and luckily it went in else some of my teammates might have said a few words being in a better position!”
