Gillingham drawn against Hartlepool United in FA Cup opener at Priestfield

Gillingham set to face non-league opposition in the First Round of the FA Cup

Gillingham were handed a home tie in the First Round of the 2018/19 FA Cup, as they were drawn to face National League side Hartlepool United.

The tie was the 22nd drawn from the pot during the live draw, conducted by Dennis Wise and Dion Dublin, as the two clubs were drawn together in the FA Cup for the first time ever.

Historically, Gillingham have the edge over Hartlepool, with the Kent side claiming 15 wins to Hartlepool’s 11, with eight games drawn.

The two clubs will face off for the first time since the 2009-2010 season, when the Gills managed to claim a solitary point from their two league games with “Pools”.

And you have to go back to November 2007 to find Gillingham’s last victory over the North East side, as two second-half strikes from Dennis Oli – his first league goals for the club – gave the Gills a 2-1 win at Priestfield.

The tie will take place over the weekend of the 9th-12th of November, with the game likely to take place on Saturday November 10, unless selected as a live televised game.
